Chaudron’s Aaron Chiantar and Dominique
Martini hold top spot, but by just one point,
and look to be the team to beat, a win and two
podium finishes marred only by a DNF was
enough to get them across the finishing line to
be crowned European Champions.
After a sluggish start and the odd gremlin,
Daniel Cramphorn and Nico Huybens’
Aquasport sparked into life in Italy grabbing
a second and first in qualifying, a third and a
win leapfrogging them up the points table into
second place.
Bernico-New Star currently sit in third spot
but their driver rotation, switching line-up for
second qualifying and race 2 may ultimately
prove to be their achilles heel. Nico Bertels and
Frank Hemelaer have fared the better of the
two pairings with a fourth and a brilliant win
in race 1 in Italy, the lesser experienced Dmitry
Vandyshev and Andrey Panyushkin picking
up a seventh and a fifth.
Two all-Italian outfits Karelpiu and Tommy
One are tied on 39 points and having their
own private fight and never far apart. They
traded the top two places in race 1 in Ibiza with
Maurizio Schepici and Stefano Bonanno in the
powerhouse Tommy One winning through,
Antonio and Giuseppe Schiano faring better in
race 2 with a second podium.
In Italy a first corner spin-out on lap 2 by
Tommy One and the subsequent collision
with Karelpiu side-lined both outfits, Tommy
One again having the advantage of their
countryman in race 2, finishing third.
IanblackerandDrewLangdon’stwoimpressive
podium performances in Silverline have been
sullied by a DNF at the season-opener and a
spin-out in the second race in Italy from a likely
third placed finish and having to settle for sixth.
And whilst they have the most ground tomake
up if they are to challenge for the title, they
have shown they have the pace and are likely
to be in the mix.
Propping up the points’ table is German duo
Siegfried Greve and Udo Gross in Hercules
Sagemann, a mixture of bad luck and lack of
reliability restricting them to a sixth and fifth
placed finishes in Ibiza but failing to finish and
start in Italy.
