With the F4-S champions of the last two years

now competing in the top flight, three-time

champion Mike Szymura moving up in 2016

and Rashed Al Qemzi this year, the accolade

of new champion is up for grabs and Jeremy

Brissett is the pace setter.

He started 2017 where he left off last year,

dominating the season opener in Portimao to

complete a very good day for the F1 Atlantic

Team with a lights-to-flag victory.

The 21-year-old topped the time sheets

in practice and qualifying and was equally

strong in the race. He held off an early first

lap challenge from Team Sweden’s Danish

debutant, Sebastian Haugaard, before racing

off into the distance to take the chequered

flag and win comfortably by 12.56 seconds.

The battle for the final podium slot was fought

out between Mad Croc BABA Racing’s Kalle

Viippo and Emirates Racing’s Mansour Al

Mansoori, Viippo stealing it on the final lap

having trailed in fourth for most of the race.

Team Abu Dhabi’s Mohammed Al Mehairbi

finished in fifth ahead of Maverick F4

newcomer Corentin Guesnel and Victory’s

Mohamed Al Yamahi. It was a disappointing

start to the season for CTIC F1 Shenzhen

China driver Wu Bingchen who retired early

on lap 3.
